2006-2007 EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

The GPSS Executive Committee takes specific actions to address issues and concerns identified by the Senate. The Executive Committee also reviews the annual budget for the following year and approves appointments to special committees. During Summer Quarter, the Executive Committee functions as the Senate. The Committee is made up of four elected officers and Executive Senators, one representative from the ASUW, and two non-voting ex-officio members representing the faculty and administration.
Dave Brown - President, Chair
Dave Brown is a third year law student at UW. He is a 2003 graduate of Whitman College with a degree in politics.

Prior to entering UW Law, Dave worked for two years as a business consultant with Deloitte. During the summer after his first year of law school, Dave clerked for the Washington State Attorney General's office in its criminal justice division. Following his second year, Dave joined Helsell Fetterman LLP as a summer associate. Dave also serves on the executive committee of the Governor's Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee, chairs the group's Issues and Public Education sub-committee, and is the State's delegate to the Federal Advisory Committee on Juvenile Justice.

During the 2007-2008 academic year, Dave will work with the graduate and professional student community, the UW Administration, and political leaders in Olympia to ensure that graduate and professional students have the tools they need to be successful while studying at UW.

Particularly pressing issues for the 2007-2008 year include the lack of adequate mental health insurance coverage for graduate and professional students, ensuring an affordable and comprehensive health insurance plan for students, fair and reasonable tuition rates, accessible and sufficient child-care services, and campus safety.
Sarah Reyneveld - Vice President
Sarah Reyneveld is second year student at the Evans School of Public Affairs focusing in education and environmental policy and a participant in the Environmental Management Certificate program. Sarah is a 2003 graduate of Smith College with a degree in Government.

As a graduate student, Sarah has worked as a Policy Analyst for GPSS and as a research intern for an environmental non-profit. Before Graduate School, Sarah worked in the Office of Governor Gregoire as a research assistant to the comprehensive education study Washington Learns, as staff to the Washington State Senate, and on the Governor Gregoire's 2004 campaign.

Sarah looks forward to working with graduate and professional students to develop a purposeful Legislative Agenda for the 2007-08 academic year. Priorities include advancing health insurance coverage, fair and predictable tuition rates, affordable childcare, and campus safety.

Sarah is excited for the opportunity to represent the interests of Graduate and Professional students to state and federal policymakers. To this end, in addition to lobbying in Olympia, Sarah will serve on the Governor’s Committee on the Education of Students in High Demand Fields and as Chair of Graduate and Professional Student Caucus for the United States Student Association.
