Author: Bob Roseth
Date: Dec 08, 2007
The University of Washington Graduate and Professional Student Senate is presenting a roundtable discussion and keynote address at 8 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7 on "Meeting Employer Demand in the Coming Decade."
The discussion, which will be held at Conibear Shellhouse, will feature Microsoft General Counsel Brad Smith as keynote speaker. Panel members will include UW President Mark Emmert, REI's CEO Sally Jewell, and Ann Daley, executive director of the Higher Education Coordinating Board. Leaders from Boeing, the UW College of Engineering, the state legislature and Geospiza, a Seattle corporation specializing in software for life sciences laboratories, are also participating.
"We felt it was important to have this discussion," says Dave Brown, GPSS president, "in light of the governor's plan to make the State a key player in the global knowledge- and research-based economy. We want to focus on the central role that graduate and professional education will play if Washington is to compete successfully for businesses and jobs."
The discussion is being filmed for broadcast on UWTV and is sponsored by the UW Graduate School, the Prosperity Partnership, the Technology Alliance and the College Work Ready Agenda.
