LEGAL SERVICES RESOURCES

  • Student Legal Services
Student Legal Services currently does not handle walk-in appointments. If you would like to schedule an appointment to meet with our legal staff, please call. Student legal services provide legal advice, counseling, negotiating and court representation in legal matters. All currently enrolled students are eligible for a free initial consultation. If additional services are needed, there is a minimal charge. The office is staffed by third-year law students, who are supervised by licensed attorneys, including a staff attorney. UW Student Legal Services has two complementary objectives: 1. To provide quality legal assistance (advice, education, and representation) to undergraduate and graduate students. 2. To provide an opportunity for UW law students to gain practical experience by counseling clients, managing a caseload, and handling typical legal problems, including negotiations and court appearances as necessary. Services Student Legal Services can provide legal advice and referrals, educate you about your responsibilities and rights, negotiate disputes, help you prepare for small claims court, and represent you in other courts. Student Legal Services staff is also available to make presentations to UW student groups on legal areas of interests. Student often bring the following matters to SLS: •Traffic tickets or problems with towing •Car or bike accidents •Landlord/Tenant disputes •Marital or relationship issues •Simple wills or estate planning •Consumer or contract complaints •Criminal matters •Credit problems •Bankruptcy •Intellectual Property •Immigration
