Essential Functions:
The following graduate and professional programs at the University of Washington have open Senate seats with the Graduate and Professional Student Senate. If you are a student in one of these programs and are interested in becoming a GPSS Senator, please contact your program administrator (contact information for each of the departments can be found by clicking on the department name below). It is up to each individual department to decide how Senate seats are assigned (some have elections, others ask for volunteers). Please contact the GPSS
The GPSS Elections Committee is composed of at least four Senators, who elect a chair. Members of the Elections Committee cannot be current GPSS officers, Executive Committee members, or candidates for office. Committee members who decide that they want to run for office must resign from the Elections Committee in writing at least 35 days before the Elections meeting. The Elections Committee is responsible for producing the Elections Packet at least two months before the election and for conducting the actual election of the GPSS officers.
The GPSS Legislative Steering Committee (LSC) is composed of the Vice President, who chairs the committee, and up to 12 graduate and proferssional students. The LSC acts as an optional advisory board to the Vice President. The LSC may assist the Vice President in developing the legislative agenda, writing and distributing briefings and action alerts, and other duties as the Vice President sees fit.
The LSC meets on a schedule as detemrined by the Vice President.

The Graduate Program Review (GPR) Committee is composed of the President (or his proxy) and 6-10 Senators. The GPR Committee represents graduate and professional students in all aspects of the graduate student component of the academic program reviews that are conducted by the Graduate School Council. They help the Council to perform the reviews; meet with faculty, staff, undergraduates, and graduate students to prepare a report; and help to conduct the graduate student meetings at the review and prepare reports about the meetings.
GPSS has a variety of internal committees that participate in decision making for the organization. The standing committees of GPSS include the Executive Committee, Judicial Committee, Finance & Budget Committee, Travel Grants Committee, Graduate Program Review Committee, Legislative Steering Committee and the Elections Committee. Members of these committees are appointed according to the bylaws. Choose an item from the sidebar for more information about any of these committees.
Any UW graduate and/or professional student may serve on the hundreds of University Committees, which range from Environmental Stewardship to Campus Master Planning. Some of the committees meet for a short duration to address a pressing issue, while others are ongoing and meet on a fairly regular basis. This website contains a list of all University Committees and specifies those seeking graduate & professional student representatives.
